May 4, Sunday
Today was our last day in Saigon. We planned to return to the Central Post Office since it was closed when we first went there. We bought a few goodies and souvenirs to take home, then tried some street food around the area, and honestly, everything was pretty good. After that, we looked for a place to have proper breakfast and ended up at La Moi, a plant-based restaurant with really great food.
We also went back to the Central Market for some last-minute shopping before heading to look for a massage place near our Airbnb. We found Emerald Spa and were so glad they could accommodate us even with our sudden booking for three. Kaye chose a different service, so she went first, while Asis and I still had about half an hour to wait.
We decided to walk to the nearby Tân Định Market and grab some snacks. We both wanted to try more local food, so we had Súp Cua (crab soup), Bánh Flan (Vietnamese crème caramel), and their yoghurt. Asis also bought a sugarcane drink, which I just couldn’t get into. But everything else was so good, and so cheap!
When it was finally our turn, we went back to the spa. Our massage lasted about 90 minutes, and they even used this electrotherapy machine that gave off tiny shocks. It was such a weird and uncomfortable feeling, but definitely an experience.
After that refreshing massage, we went straight to our tattoo appointment. It was moved a couple of hours later than planned, but thankfully, one of the staff from Emerald kindly spoke with Uyen, our tattoo artist, in Vietnamese to explain the delay, and she agreed to wait for us. I actually booked this session before our trip, and we all decided to get minimalist tattoos. It was also Kaye’s first tattoo, and I was so proud of her! She said it wasn’t as bad as she thought.. and true enough, it really wasn’t. Honestly, facials hurt way more than getting a tattoo.
Uyen was such an amazing artist! We absolutely loved our tattoos. The lines were so fine and delicate, exactly how we wanted them. After almost three hours, we were finally done (and starving), so we headed back to Susu Waterfall Chicken. We each ordered two chicken leg quarters. Still as juicy and delicious as the first time. It was the perfect way to end our trip.
Back at our Airbnb, we packed up our things and rested a bit before our 1 am flight. I slept through the entire plane ride and had the whole next day (May 5) to rest before returning to work. Thank you, Ho Chi Minh city. You’ve been wonderful.
