Same old, same old

Life lately has been pretty much the same. Everything seems to be normal and mundane. Work has been stressful, as always. My Psoriasis has also been acting up again and again. I’ve been spending and indulging myself too much, too. Going to random cafes, drinking expensive lattes every now and then just to get away from home, or sometimes, I will rush to any nearby place that has stable internet so I can properly work because our connection at home is too messed up. Working remotely for about a year now made me miss a lot of things. I miss the face-to-face social interaction. Can I just say that I miss the corporate world? Well, minus the commute to/from work. It is also why I badly wanted to go on a getaway, it is just that my financial status permits me to do so. I have so many plans, wants, and needs, but I need to make little sacrifices. Life is not easy. Responsibilities always come first.

Anyway, I recently got back into reading. I just finished two books and I just bought my next current read. It’s actually nice, it reduces the stress/sadness I’m feeling.

So here’s my currently:

Reading: Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng // By the way, Fullybooked SM Fairview branch messaged me that the book I was looking for (Shout – Laurie Halse Anderson) had arrived at their store. I was hesitant at first since I really don’t like hard bounds (it’s expensive and it’s heavy and it’s too big to bring with me) but then I saw that signed copy sticker and ta-da, I bought it. Still got 6 unread books. I should stop buying now. HELP!

  • Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata 3/5 ☆ – ‘Twas such a quick read. I enjoyed reading it. Made me laugh out loud.
  • What It Means When a Man Falls from the Sky by Lesley Nneka Arimah 4/5 ☆ – I had no idea what this book was all about. I’m the kind of a person who just randomly buys a high-rated book just because. So I was confused and left hanging when I finished the first chapter but then found out that it was a collection of short stories. Most stories made me stop and ponder. Sometimes it took me a while to continue reading another story because it just left me feeling too many emotions. My favorites would be, “The Future Looks Good”, “Windfalls”, and “Light”.

Watching: Arthdal Chronicles (KDrama), The 100 Season 6 // Both are ongoing series. I also can’t wait for the new season of How To Get Away With Murder! I honestly have so many series that I started but haven’t continued. Meh, lazy me.

  • Chernobyl 5/5 ☆ – Every episode was too much. “What is the cost of lies? It’s not that we will mistake them for the truth. The real danger is that, if we hear enough lies, then we no longer recognize the truth at all.”
  • Unnatural (JDrama) 5/5 ☆ – I really loved it. I’m still not over it, to be honest. Whenever I miss it I just listen to its OST on repeat all day–Lemon by Kenshi Yonezu.

Listening: To this new playlist I made on Spotify.

Loving: The rain, this cold weather

Craving: A strong iced latte and a warm s’mores cookie

Missing: My boyf

How have you been lately?

I really want to watch Chernobyl, I've heard so many good things! And I 110% get what you mean about missing social interation and the corporate world, whenever I work remotely for a while I feel so isolated and bored xx

I hope that you get to get away soon! It must be so frustrating trying to work from home without a good internet connection! I'm lucky I can work from home once a week but I definitely miss the social side when I'm not in the office!I hope that you are having a great week so far :)http://awayfromtheblue.blogspot.com.au

Thank you for sharing these reading recommendations. Working from home has both its perks and downsides. One definitely misses social interaction when working from home. I hope you Psoriasis will get better. I think that the change of season can make it worse, so maybe that is it. All immune illness can be triggered by a change of season, so maybe things will calm down a bit as soon as the new season settles in. https://modaodaradosti.blogspot.com/

I’ve been spending a lot of time at cafes in order to get myself out of the apartment as well 😛 // I prefer paperbacks too! I mostly shop secondhand though, so I take what I can get, even if that means getting a hardcover haha. But at least shopping secondhand means that whenever I do find books, I get them for a steal! // Ahh I should have binged Chernobyl when I got my HBO free trial for Game of Thrones!! -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey’s

I agree! It is such a score if you happen to find a nice cheap book/s at thrift stores. Can't wait to know what are your thoughts about Chernobyl when you finally see it. x

There are some pros and cons with working remotely. You don't need to wake up as early but you lose out on the people interaction. I've heard so many great things about Celeste Ng's writings! I need to go back to watching some shows. Have a great weekend! Nancy ♥ exquisitely.me

I get you, my eczema flares up so bad when I'm stressed out! Recently, it's been getting worse because my job has been keeping me busy, but I like to go to acupuncture to help calm me down and put things in check. Also, I really enjoyed Convenience Store Woman! It was such a fun read. I also loved reading Everything I Never Told You, so I'm interesting in hearing your thoughts on it.Mai✰ maidoesthings.com

I totally understand about missing face to face interaction with another human because I too work at home for 2 months now, and it can be pretty boring. Anyway, I'm glad that you got back into reading, I was actually planning to read Everything I never told you but then, I sold my copy lol

I think we're the same on the coffee shop part. We have a strong and stable internet connection at home, but sometimes even my room isn't private enough (figuratively speaking) to gather my thoughts. And I type this while on leave from work, in a coffee shop somewhere. This was a nice read. Hang in there, April. 🙂

I love all the beautiful moments and reflections in this post, they're all so honest and refreshing to read 🙂 The photos are all gorgeous, I love how stunningly you've captured the sunsets. Hoping you get to go on a well-deserved get-away very soon, especially as work has been so stressful. It's so frustrating when you want to put plans and ideas in motion but sacrifices need to be made first. Hoping you can live out as many as your plans as soon as is possible! I've heard Celeste Ng recommended a lot lately, I'll definitely have to check her out. Just looked Everything I Never Told You up on Goodreads and already I'm hooked 🙂 Also iced lattes and s'mores cookies sound amazing, SO good! ♥︎Sophie | soinspo xo

I have the option to work remotely. If it's too hot outside, I stay home. If it's too cold, I stay home. If I just don't feel like commuting, I stay home. I absolutely LOVE my team which makes the commute easier to endure, but I'm sure I'd miss the social interaction if I were remote all the time. We literally clown and joke all day in between our tasks. I can totally understand how you can miss being in an environment where you can engage with other people. I've heard so many amazing things about Chernobyl, which makes me really anxious to start the show. Work has had me so busy that I have so much to catch up on. Good news is I have several binge sessions ahead.

Carla, really happy to see your comments on my posts. Thank you!Anyway, companies here are strict. If you want to work in a corporate world you should always be in the office. Companies like yours here are little to none. You are so lucky to have that kind of work setup. What are you watching? Recommend some! x
